Farm

Mt Wombat – New Years Day

Here are some photo’s that I took when we went up Mt Wombat (799m) just outside of Strathbogie on New Years Day.

At the top there is a firetower that is manned all through summer.   With fires active all around the area, and around three sides of Mt Buller it was not a quiet day.   At this time of year around Strathbogie there is usually still a touch af green to the paddocks but  not this year, brown grass and bare earth are all that can be seen.

You Lookin at Me?

I managed to get some mug shot at the farm when I was up there last.

The alpaca was in to be drenched with the sheep – while we had him up the draughting race I managed to get these two photos of him. I also have one of the black alpaca but he didn’t turn out too well so you don’t get to see that.

While the sheep were being crutched, we took the opportunity to go a fix the fence where some of the sheep were escaping into the cow paddock. The cows being great sticky beaks came to investigate – the perfect opportunity for more mug shots!

Razz – A Tribute

1991 – 7th April 2006
Razz.

You came into my life as my 17 birthday present as a 15 year old chestnut gelding. Later on when you got sick, and you had your teeth x-rayed we found out you were actually a lot older than that.
You tried hard at whatever you did; whether it was pony club, adult riding club, stock work, gymkhanas, shows, nav-rides or dressage competitions. You didn’t mind new born lambs running between your legs.  I trusted you enough to drop the reins completely in pleasure mount classes at shows. You taught me all about jumping, I became very good at jumping the jumps while you remained on the other side of the jumps.
You became stubborn in your old age, wanting the company of humans more than your paddock mates and being fed on demand. You thought that coming inside was “normal”. You were very also very tough on your rugs – but you were more than worth it.  You tried to wait till we got there, but you lost the battle, aged 42.

Good bye my friend.

The View from the Hard Gate

This is just next to where I took the photo’s of the Alpacas, looking the other way from the gate.

You can make out Mt Wombat on the right in line with the boundary fence, and Galls Gap Rd running through the middle of the photo as a vague straight line. The Walker’s new house is just visible about of a third of the way in on the right hand side.

Clouds

Maybe not exactly a sunset, it is still sky related – and it obviously wasn’t to far away from sun-down.
Saturday was a bitterly cold day, the wind just seemed to go straight through you, especially here on top of the hill. To top it all off we had short, sharp rain showers that kept on coming through – now that’s good if you need the rain, but not so good if you have things to do outside. But a sight like this seems to make it worthwhile.

It was a big contrast to just the week before when I took that photo’s of the Alpacas, and it was roasting – somewhere over the 30°C mark – still it is autumn.
