It looks as though Andy from Lou and Andy (Little Britain) have an impersonator in the USA – but would they approve? The Seattle Times has a story about a local man accused of faking mental impairment to collect benefits:
TACOMA — For nearly 20 years — ever since Pete Costello was 8 — his mother has collected disability benefits on his behalf. In meetings with Social Security officials and psychologists, he appeared mentally impaired and unable to communicate. His mother insisted he couldn’t read or write, shower, care for himself or drive.
But now prosecutors say it was all a huge fraud, and they have video of Costello contesting a traffic ticket to prove it.
Are there no limits to how low some people will stoop? It is estimated that over the twenty years that this deception has been going on, the man and his mother have raked in around $222,000US.
