Over Easter we managed a family trip up Mt Wombat to see the new Telstra mobile tower that’s being built, and to have a look at the view. There are more photos to follow, but this one appealed to my sense of humour!
April, 2010:
Bunny Tossing
Strange things happens in New Zealand.
A German tourist has been crowned New Zealand’s champion rabbit-thrower [^] in Waitomo according to stuff.co.nz. Lisa Lutz managed to overthrow the Kiwis by tossing a dead rabbit into a trailer attached to a motobike; something seen across farms in New Zealand and Australia.
Event organiser Barry Woods said that the event was staged as a stand against political correctness. Rabbits are not native to either country, and cause a great deal of damage to indigenous flora and fauna. Only dead rabbits were used in the competition.
I am a Bunny
Hope that everyone had a good Easter. Here’s Stand by Me by The Muppets with the monster saying “I am a Bunny”.
Incompetence
Don’t you just love it when you discover that there may be a scientific basis for your own observations. The Dunning–Kruger effect [^] is the phenomenon whereby the lesser-skilled overestimate their abilities and the highly-skilled underestimate theirs. As Bertrand Russell said:
Apparently there is still some debate over the validity of the effect; but how else can you explain the observation? The Peter Principle [^] is another possibility; this is where someone is promoted to their level of incompetence. That is, a person in a hierarchy continues to rise until they reach a point completely out of their field of expertise.
On a lighter note there is also the simple fact that nothing can compete with natural stupidity [^].
