House

Stumps . . .

Another week and another milestone – stumps, and the first progress payment.
No photos from the back, as you can see it is rather muddy. Even the builders seem to think so with their pallet bridge into the garage.

Floor Level

We have just about hit floor-level now. The back wall is already over my head – so we are going to have a good storage area under the house. The only thing that isn’t started is the garage. The whole site is a bit on the squishy side now that we have started to get some rain – especially the storage area at the back of the house which is about the only level part of the entire block!
At the moment we seem to be going through one of the small phases – but I’m sure that is going to pass quickly as the walls continue to rise and the floor goes down.

The Walls are Going Up

We have a wall – well a corner and a door-way.
Work has started on the back corner of the house, this is the part with the most space underneath. I think that here the wall is up to about floor level, one thing is for sure – we are going to have a fantastic view out over Mooroolbark from our family room window
These photos were taken at the start of the week – Monday was a public holiday (Queens Birthday), so we actually got to the house in daylight.

Construction Starts

Yes.   Construction has started – well kind of, we now have a retaining wall.   There is also the beginnings of a driveway.   These photos looking from the “House” back to the road give some idea of the slope over the first few metres of the block.   The side fence is just over the six-foot mark – looks like we are going to have some landscaping to do!

The Footings are Poured

We had a very pleasant surprise – on our way back form the farm on Sunday (21/5/06) we stopped off at the block. We were expecting to find the house site pegged out – ready for excavation to begin. But no, the builder had got a bit in front of us – all of the earthworks had been completed and the footings had been poured.
In the first photo in the two corners you can see all that remains of the garden – a pile of agapanthus on the right and the dead trees on the left. Things are really starting to happen now.
